Lamu island Kenya

Lamu island is the cultural hub of Swahili heritage, a mix of African, Arab, and Indian descendants. Life is slow here; donkeys and old dhow are the primary means of transport. Lamu Town is Kenya's oldest living town which has been inhabited for over 700 years and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lamu is part of the ancient Arab trade route, and it is believed that the Lamu port, which the original traders established, has existed for at least 1000 years. The white sandy beaches of the Lamu archipelago are believed to be amongst the best in Kenya.
